The big downside to spring for any allergy sufferer is the knowledge that your eyes nose and throat might, at any moment, stage an “uprising” against your face. We’re told to stay indoors to avoid the symptoms. Yeah, right.
Have you successfully treated your spring allergy symptoms – OR – have you discovered a way to keep the symptoms away completely?

The ONLY thing that has EVER helped me is using a neti pot:

I’ve suffered for years. Tried every thing I could get my hands on. It wasn’t until a friend suggested I try using one of these that I FINALLY felt human again. I can actually breath now. What was truly amazing was the results were immediate. I use it every other day and that seems like a productive schedule for me. I experimented until I found a routine that worked for me. It’s amazing, after suffering my whole life w/congestion both in my throat and my nose, the solution was so easy. I recommend trying this yourself.
Look for one at your local health food store. I’m so grateful to my friend for mentioning it herself.

Immunotherapy (aka allergy shots) should give a sufferer relief, but it’s a gradual process. I use Pataday for my eye symptoms. 🙂

Allergens have been especially bad for dogs here in Southern CT for the past couple of years. I’ve had to take my pooch once already this year, and the Vet said that the phone had started ringing off the hook early April. The cycle has begun again! It starts when all of the snow is finally gone, and continues through early Fall. Medicated, regular baths help.Oil supplements as well (NOT canola).
I feel for Eddie when he starts to scratch and lick, but am thanksful it is him and not me!

I took allergy shots for years, but it didn’t seen to help me at all… I learned this critical information from my dog’s allergist – the best method to alleviate symptoms is prophylactic – take antihistamine before exposure to allergens, because once the allergic reaction starts it kinda has to run it’s course. I take Benedryl at bedtime (added bonus – diphenhydramine is the active ingredient in OTC sleep aids like Sominex and Nytol) Another key is to wash away pollen after being outside – especially from hair, and definitely before going to bed! take a quick shower and use a neti pot (or use spray saline when on-the-go). Also, sign up with pollen.com and they will send you the pollen count in your ZIP code 🙂

I have to agree with Chris on using a Netti pot. My doctor recommended it to me because I have asthma which leads to chronic bronchitis. Well every time I would get a cold, it would end up in my chest and end up on antibiotics…..it was a vicious cycle. I started getting REALLY sick (green means infection) so I relented and tried the Netti Pot. Within a few days I was feeling SO much better, and I am now a total believer!!! I have not been on antibiotics all winter…a FIRST for me!!! Even my doctor mentioned I had not been in for my usual bouts of bronchitis and I told her I took her advice and had been using the Netti pot. These can be found at CVS, Stop and Shop, and I assume any pharmacy chain. If you cannot locate it, ASK. You will be amazed how much relief you will have from using one!!!! I have been using it for my seasonal allergies, and have been able to sleep without using the usual sinus meds, nose spray ect……even helps my eyes!!!
