What are the most important things to think of – or have on hand – in case of a weather emergency?
At last week’s meeting at Manjares, the obvious topic of conversation was the aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene. [For my money, that was a Hurricane.]
Meteorologist Matt Scott shared his secret (and Sarah her disgust) for toilet flushing when you’ve got well water and no power. (You pour a bucket of water in there. Or, in Duo’s case, “Champers”.)
Now we turn to you: What are the most important things to think of – or have on hand – in case of a weather emergency?

I would have to say that what helped me the most during the storm was CTAlert!!! I signed up on the website before the storm and entered my home and cell. I received updates on where to get gas, showers, charging stations, and school closings. It was my lifeline to the outside world! Of course….having my husbands work generator to make coffee for myself and the neighbors, and keep my food in the freezer from spoiling was not so bad either! LOL
That’s a GREAT suggestion, Doris – one I hadn’t thought of…
battery operated radio, spare batteries, peanut butter, and good tequila
No limes?
only if you fear scurvy
‘D’ batteries for the battery operated radio and flashlights. There were none to be had in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island prior to the storm. I started looking two days before Irene was due. I guess we could stock up now but, by the time the next storm hits (in ten years) they will have gone past their usefulness.
