Recording Session 25 – Chips
Chips Family Restaurant has been voted “Best Pancakes in Connecticut” for the past three years, which made it a no-brainer for our next “moveable feast and recording session”. (We’ll be gathering at the Orange location)
Our guest conversationalists will be Susannah Bailin, Jaki Valensi-Lauper, Helen Kauder and Randye Kaye, and we’ll be discussing real life questions that relate to the coming holidays.
I invite you to join the show prep session in the comments!

From the desk of Susannah Rabb Bailin:
Hello. I am a privacy freak. See you on Sunday.
Ok. Just kidding.
Well, if you Google-d me, you would see my Linkedin profile (Board Member/Development Chair for two local non-profits, other non-profit volunteer positions, where I went to college and business school), my wedding announcement, my quotes in some published articles and that even though the White Pages says that there are 3 people named Susannah Bailin in the US, they are all me.
As of today, the Internet can not yet read my mind so there are still some aspects of my identity that are only available on an as-needed basis. Perhaps you would be interested to know that my new favorite quote is by Antoine de Saint-Exupery–”a goal without a plan is just a wish”. Or maybe you would like to know my Myers-Briggs personality type — INFJ? Or maybe you would like to know the secret to…..da,da,da-da, da, da…..happiness??!!
For that juicy tidbit, you will have to tune in.
Hi Susannah – thanks for being the first to join this week’s prep session!
Still wondering what I want to be when I grow up. In the meantime, have been (and am, depending on the day and what time it is) a radio personality, stage/TV/film actress, singer, voice talent, improv group member, professional speaker, Mom, wife (OK twice but who’s counting), blogger, voiceover coach, and now published author of the memoir “Ben Behind His Voices:One Family’s Journey from the Chaos of Schizophrenia to Hope.” Woo hoo!
There is a bio of me on Wikipedia if you suspect I am making this all up. I swear.
Holiday musings…Where are the Chanukah candles left over from last year?… How can I avoid shopping until January (sorry, economy)?… Since my neighbor decorated the trees separating our properties for the first time, will people think we are suddenly celebrating Xmas?… Do cookies have to be home-made?… How the heck do you make latkes again?… Eight nights of present was much easier when my kids were 3 and 6….Am I really supposed to tip my mailman all of a sudden? etc. Help!
I just checked Wikipedia, and it’s all TRUE! Can’t wait for Sunday…
Ok last, but not least, better late then never here is my info:) I can tell I’m really going to have alot of fun with you guys on Sunday! Great sense of humor seen above and I love to laugh. I’m host of JakisBuzz.com, actress in film/tv/theatre/commercials, you name it and I’m mom to 2 beautiful young children. I love entertainment/buzzing on what’s going on and keeping things positive, the world doesn’t need more negativity! I think with the holidays coming up, all the choices for holiday entertainment for families and your kids wanting everything they see/hear about etc. I’d love to discuss trying to keep your sanity during the holiday season and choosing what’s right for YOU.
Here is Short Bio:
New Haven’s “IT” girl! This dynamic, talented and versatile actress and host has graced both stage and screen in productions spanning both coasts. Jaki has been seen in some amazing theater productions, worked as an Emcee locally and been acting in several movies and commercials shot right here in New England as well as in LA. In fact Jaki has been dubbed CT Scream Queen for the amount of horror films she’s acted in, so if you need any screaming done, Jaki is your gal. One of Jaki’s real passions is highlighting all the cool talent and unique local businesses on Jaki’s Buzz!
Thanks, Jaki. Actually, you’re not the last… and CERTAINLY not the least – we’ve added Helen Kauder to this week’s list of guest conversationalists. See you Sunday!
the holidays are the end of a pressurizing funnell of time, daylight and debt…every decision, hell every thought is filled with associations of the previous pressure cookers of psycho-crutch, – its as if every birthday, anniversary or graduation happened one noth between the 4th week of Nov and the 4th week of Dec -
its often a no-win, all-good, time warp and non-liturgical epiphany fest…
no life decisions should be made in this month, but no emotions should be repressed either…the loss of control is unavoidable so you might as well loosen your belt, have another glass of something and laugh, because baring tragedy, January’s darkness will soon envelope everything

Holiday cards & letters. Can we reallocate this tradition to the end of January or those gray weeks of February when everyone needs a refill of cheer & connection? Fun to get & give, but super time-consuming on top of all the other holiday stuff. I’ve given up & send ours out in January, sometimes Feb.
OK, so please save some holiday shenanigans for me/us for taping 12/18. Does that mean we will air ON Christmas Day? GOODY!
OH. Now I get it. You are bringing me back SOLELY to air on Christmas day as my name is Holly. And you know I will wear bells and a silly hat.
Ego Deflate.Actually, it’s Elizabeth Hollister Adam and I was NOT born on 12/25. Just named/called after two amazing women.
Having a Sally Fields moment. “I thought you liked me.” She got an award. Do I get a cocktail?
Looking forward. I can only guess what we’ll be chatting about.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this conversation – it’s incredibly helpful as we plan for Sunday. (And Sundays to come!) Thanks one and all…
How about holidays for the newly dating couples – how many months of dating the same under your belt before you are obligated to invite the person to meet the (extended) family for the holidays?
A recent university study conducted in Norway and published in the Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health says art makes people happier. For someone who spends her time trying to nurture young and emerging artists to create work in and tied to New Haven (and make New Haven a more hip, exciting, and culturally-vibrant place), that’s really good news. But how do we get more people involved, so that as a community, we are happier? Lately, I have been thinking that one of the solutions is found at our local libraries–in the stacks, at the reference desk, and even in the library’s recycling bin. The future of the library (and by extension, of the book) will be animated and bright if we can all immerse ourselves in these important spaces.
