What’s Your Favorite (Healthy) Summer Meal?

Looking For Mister Good Dinner

I have written before about one of the many banes of my existence: figuring out what to serve for dinner. In the summer, what with all the reduced wearing of clothes and all, it seems important to add a low calorie component to the equation.

Turn Off The Oven

Oh, and it also seems wise to think about the summer meal in a way that doesn’t require us to heat the oven to the “gates of hell” setting. (And what does the Barber family have planned for tonight? Pizza. Crank it up, Lucifer.)

How Do You Change a Behavior You Don’t Like?

The Little Things

There are lots of things we do in life that we know we shouldn’t do – anything, from shoplifting to smoking to eating the wrong foods – but often it’s difficult to stop ourselves from doing them.

To Do… It…  Or Not To Do It

Why to we do these things? That’s one for the ages. Better we spend our time trying to figure how how not to do them.

How Do You Deal With Insomnia?

It’s a Big Problem

Insomnia drives a lot of people crazy. Me, I usually sleep right through it.

What’s Up With The Sheep?

I’ve always wondered who came up with the concept of counting sheep to fall asleep. Why not, say, monkeys? Sheep just sound so… trippy.

What Vitamins Should The Average Person Be Taking?

You read these articles that say that one vitamin helps with this, and another helps with that. Then, another article comes out that the first vitamin is actually bad for you for you, but research on the second is inconclusive. The end result is that I end up so confused, I need to prescribe myself a little “Vitamin W”. (Wine.)

The Costco Effect

While the research is confusing, a trip to the store can be even worse. I visited the vitamin asile at Costco the other day. It looked the the final scene in the first Indiana Jones Movie.

Common Sense

I have this feeling I have that there’s a simple, common sense solution out there somewhere. (Call me crazy, but my belief is that getting some solid advice is often better than reading about all the latest science and reacting to each new study.)

What Should You Do, PDQ, If Your BFF Has ADD?

Is it me, or does there seem to be an ADD epidemic? Come to think of it, they’ve gone and thrown in another letter now, so I guess the question should be ‘does there seem to be an ADHD epidemic?’ (ADHD, you see, is the new ADD.)

A Dizzying  Array of Choices

The thing that scares me, and this is true with so many things these days, is that there doesn’t seem to be a clear path to take once you hear those letters. The school does a test. You go to the pediatrician. The pediatrician prescribes something or refers you to a specialist.

Let The The Second Guessing Begin

So how do you know it’s the right medicine? Or the best specialist? Are we sure the kid really has ADD?

(You could get ADD just trying to figure this stuff out.)
