As you may have guessed, booking our RLSG venues isn’t a terribly arduous process. Sure, I’ve had to deal with unanswered emails, absent-minded, overworked restaurateurs, scheduling snafus and the occasional non-response to my repeated VMS, but it’s mostly been a breeze. With so many incredible eateries that exist within our area, choosing just one per week has proved to be a delicious dilemma – akin to picking out the most perfect bonbon from a luscious box of chocolates. Tossing Forest Gump-ish metaphors aside, I double-dare you to walk into New Haven’s Chocopologie without succumbing to at least one sweet lil’ morsel of cocoa-lusciousness.
And so, when Danyel Aversenti, the brainchild of Our Empty Space, presented us with the opportunity to record Episode 48 in the High Street branch of Fritz Knipschildt’s acclaimed SoNo chocolate emporium, we jumped up and down with happiness (and to also burn calories). Hooray! Even moi, an individual possessing a miniscule sweet-tooth, was excited about the prospect of eating candy. (Full disclosure: My husband, an unabashed chocolate lover and official baker in our household insists my idea of a perfect dessert is a nectarine.)
But back to Danyel—New Haven’s reining pop-up queen and entrepreneurial visionary responsible for installing this European style confectionery in our midst. When asked if she could possibly procure Chocoplogie as a RLSG venue, she quickly acquiesced—and promptly volunteered to participate in her third guest-editor go-round. Sweet music to our ears! And thus, in a spell of chocolate-induced fever, another RLSG episode was born.
Our other “patients” included actor/director Jane Tamarkin, inventor/musician/ mathematician Harlan Brothers and former Hartford Courant columnist Susan Campbell, all of whom were royally remedied to by store manager Christian Wilki. Chef Wilki put before us a dazzling platter of delicacies, which we politely nibbled at during our sparkling conversation, but secretly wished to gobble down in private like foolhardy sugar-fiends. Wisely, we took those chocolate goodies home.
Dear listeners—even if cacao creations are not your thing, Chocopologie’s selection of pastries, macaroon, cookies, candy, pastries and ice cream is unparalleled. Stop in for some great espresso to go with that lemony, lime, strawberry, basil, lavender, minty, coconut, dark rum, vanilla, pistachio, salted, caramel creation. Or two. You can start that diet tomorrow.
Sweet dreams,
-CPG
